EARLY LEARNING

Early Care and Education Services, City of San José (San José Public Library)  
The mission of the City of San José's Early Care and Education Services to increase access to quality, affordable early childhood care and education for all San Jose children and families, and Vision that all children will enter school with the foundation needed for academic and social success.

First 5 Santa Clara County
Based on sound research in early child development, FIRST 5 Santa Clara County supports the healthy growth and nurturing of children prenatal through age 5. By working with parents, community leaders, social service and healthcare agencies, FIRST 5 funds and sponsors essential services for young children and their families. We are a voice and an advocate for young children and their families, investing more than $30 million of Proposition 10 tobacco tax money each year in Santa Clara County to support critical issues such as children’s health insurance, advanced training for early childhood teachers,  parenting skills and domestic violence workshops,  mental health services for children and caregivers, and arts and early literary programs.

Local Early Education Planning Council
The Local Early Education Planning Council (LPC) is a collaborative association of representatives from the early care and education field, including parents, child care providers, businesses, and government. A joint committee of board members from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Santa Clara County Board of Education oversees the Council.

RAFT - Resource Area for Teaching
RAFT's mission is to help educators transform the learning experience through "hands-on" education that inspires the joy and discovery of learning. We are doing this today with some 9,000 educators in the classroom, doing home-schooling, or working in after-school or community-based programs. RAFT's products, services and low-cost teaching supplies enrich and improve the education of over 600,000 young people each year.

SCCOE Early Learning Services Department
The Early Learning Services Department provides a variety of services for early childhood education for families and community stake holders within Santa Clara and San Benito Counties. The department coordinates government-funded programs for infants, toddlers, preschool children and other early education services.  Programs include Head Start, State Preschool, California Preschool Instructional Network (CPIN), Inclusion Collaborative and Local Early Learning Planning Council.

Sobrato Family Foundation
The Sobrato Family Foundation provides space and program funding to a number of local education, health and human service programs .

AACI - Asian Americans for Community Involvement
Focusing on the diverse Asian American community, Asian Americans for Community Involvement (AACI)’s mission is to improve the health, mental health, and well-being of individuals and their families by providing an array of human services. AACI empowers the Asian American community by working collaboratively for equality and social justice.

Alum Rock Counseling Center
Since 1974, Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) has addressed the damage of family conflict, school failure and delinquency among high-risk youth, producing responsible community members and a healthier, more vibrant East San Jose. ARCC offers practical, proven solutions to families when and where they need them most.

Bay Area After-School All Stars
The Bay Area After-School All-Stars provide free, comprehensive out-of-school programming for under-served youth, focusing on enriching the mind, body, and character of every child we serve, and giving them the skills and self-confidence needed to more fully engage in the core school day.

Citizen Schools
As a high quality extended day program, Citizen Schools California partners with middle schools to increase opportunity and set a permanent path for students to graduate high school, become college and career ready, and connect to the real world through hands-on learning experiences.

City Year San José/Silicon Valley
City Year San Jose/Silicon Valley corps members provide critical services to the most in-need youth and neighborhoods.  Every year, more than 2,300 high school students drop out of San Jose schools. In just one year, these teenagers may go on to commit 534 violent crimes a year and suffer $200 million in lost wages over their lifetimes, in addition to costing the San Jose community millions in health care costs and lost productivity.

Community Health Partnership
Community health centers are one of the few sources of accessible, affordable, and culturally competent healthcare services for low-income and medically underserved populations. While maintaining a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities they serve, these health centers provide an array of services including general family practice. medical and dental care, well baby visits, prenatal care, nutritional counseling, health education, and prevention, counseling, mental health, and community outreach.

EMQ Families First
EMQ Families First does whatever it takes to help children in crisis and their families. We are recognized for innovative mental health treatment, foster care and social services that help families recover from trauma, abuse and addiction, and rebuild their lives. We fight for sustainable change and advocate for improvements in the local, state and federal systems that serve children in need.

Grail Family Services
Grail Family Services (GFS) is a non-profit organization that fosters learning and the empowerment of vulnerable families with young children through programs that educate, develop leadership skills, and build a sense of community.

Catholic Charity (family literacy)
Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County changes lives for good. We help people of all cultures and beliefs rise up out of poverty and overcome the barriers to self-sufficiency. Because most lives are a complex pattern of choices and circumstances, we take a holistic approach to helping people change their lives, taking into account the whole person as well as their family and life situations.

Mexican Heritage Corporation
The Mexican Heritage Corporation serves the Silicon Valley and Northern California by presenting and advancing Mexican and multicultural performing arts.

PIQE - Parent Institute for Quality Education
PIQE creates partnerships between parents, students and educators to further students’ academic success.  As a result of PIQE's work and parent engagement, more than 1.5 million under-served student's education has been enhanced since its inception in 1987.

Project Cornerstone
Project Cornerstone's mission is to train and mobilize adults throughout Santa Clara County to intentionally work to develop healthy, caring, and responsible children and youth. We seek to achieve this mission through programs that strengthen families, neighborhoods, communities, and schools, and by ensuring that the needs of young people are addressed in public policy.

San José Youth Commission
The City of San José's Youth Commission is the official youth advisory group to the City Council and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services.

Sacred Heart Community Services
The mission of SHCS is to change lives and impact poverty by providing essential services, offering tools for self-sufficiency, and ministering with dignity, compassion and respect. We engage the community and inspire volunteers to love, serve and share.

A free Region 5 Parent Engagement Conference Series and customized workshop trainings are offered to districts in Spanish and English.

Sixth District PTA
The Sixth District PTA supports and empowers PTA leaders through training, parent education, financial support, and mentoring, to enable them to advocate more effectively on behalf of children and families

SOMOS Mayfair
The mission of Somos Mayfair is to cultivate the dreams and power of the people of Mayfair through cultural activism, social services and community organizing. We are generations of immigrants, rooted in a vibrant community, who nurture healthy families and speak out for justice in Silicon Valley.

United Way Silicon Valley
United Way Silicon Valley creates lasting and measurable change in Silicon Valley by focusing on the three key building blocks of life: Income, Education and Health. We bring stakeholders together to generate philanthropy from all segments of our community, marshal resources, forge community consensus, and build coalitions and partnerships. The combined result is far greater than the sum of each individual component.

YCS - Youth Community Services
YCS programs engage youth in community service activities that promote increased awareness of the needs of their communities and the development of individual community service self-efficacy, and positive emotional and behavioral health. We actively collaborate with a number of K-12 educators and community-based organizations in northern Santa Clara and southern San Mateo Counties.

YMCA of Silicon Valley
YMCA of Silicon Valley is a volunteer-led public charity that works collaboratively with community partners to improve the lives of children, adults, families, and the entire community. Our purpose is to strengthen and enrich the development of individuals and families through quality programs and services that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

YWCA of Silicon Valley
The YWCA helps change the destiny of women, children and families, offering hope for self improvement and resources to make success a reality.  For over 100 years of service, the mission of the YWCA of Silicon Valley has remained steadfast: to empower women, children, and their families, and to eliminate racism, hatred, and prejudice. We continue to provide a broad range of services that transform the lives of a diverse community.

SCHOOL AND CLASSROOM

New Teacher Center
The New Teacher Center is dedicated to improving student learning by accelerating the effectiveness of teachers and school leaders. Since 1998, the New Teacher Center has served over 49,000 teachers and 5,000 mentors, touching millions of students across the country through comprehensive mentoring and professional development programs.

RAFT - Resource Area for Teaching

SCCOE Assessment and Accountability Department
The Assessment and Accountability Department coordinates and implements California's statewide testing programs. The department works with the SCCOE and with schools, districts and the public to provide professional guidance in the collection, reporting, and use of student achievement information to improve California's schools and to increase academic achievement for all students.

SCCOE Curriculum and Instruction Department
SCCOE Curriculum and Instruction services for educators include seminars, conferences, workshops and institutes in all content areas. All program offerings focus on research based instructional strategies, curriculum standards, and teaching standards.

Silicon Valley Education Foundation
The Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) is a non-profit resource and advocate for students, educators, and corporate and individual donors. SVEF seeks to drive scholastic achievement in the critical areas of math and science by combining resources and partnerships to provide innovative academic programs and acts as a catalyst for policy solutions in public education. SVEF's programs include "Stepping Up To Algebra" and "Stepping Up To Science" which prepare students for success in eighth grade algebra and their first A-G college-track science course in ninth grade, Teacher Innovation Grants, and Lessonopoly.

Sixth District PTA
The Sixth District PTA supports and empowers PTA leaders through training, parent education, financial support, and mentoring, to enable them to advocate more effectively on behalf of children and families

Teach for America - Bay Area
Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates of all academic majors and career interests who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunity.  This year in the Bay Area, a corps of nearly 425 of the nation’s most promising future leaders are teaching in nearly 170 traditional and charter schools to unleash the potential of nearly 30,000 children growing up in the Bay Area’s highest-need communities.

COLLEGE/CAREER SUCCESS

America's Promise
With more than 400 national partner organizations and their local affiliates, the America's Promise is uniquely positioned to mobilize Americans to act. We have made a top priority of ensuring that all young people graduate from high school ready for college, work and life through our Grad Nation movement. Our work involves raising awareness, encouraging action and engaging in advocacy to provide children the key supports.

ALearn
ALearn is a non-profit organization committed to helping under-represented students get to and succeed in college. Our programs enhance the opportunities, access and advancement to college for students who will be the first in their family to go to college.

AVID
The mission of AVID focuses on providing access to four-year colleges for students in the middle capable of completing a college preparatory path, so that they achieve success in a rigorous curriculum and become part of the mainstream activities of a school. Today, AVID is an international program, adopted by over 3,500 middle and high schools in 45 states and in the District of Columbia across 15 countries. In 2007, 88% of Hispanic and African American AVID graduates in California completed the UC/CSU "a-g" course requirements. Among the 8,830 California AVID graduates last year, 98.4% were accepted to, and planned to attend a university or college.

Breakthrough Silicon Valley
In 2002, Applied Materials, the San Jose Unified School District and the Breakthrough Collaborative formed a joint partnership to bring the Breakthrough Collaborative educational model to middle schools in Silicon Valley.  Breakthrough Silicon Valley (BSV) is a rigorous six-year academic enrichment program designed to increase educational opportunities for high-potential but typically underserved middle and high school students, and to inspire outstanding college and high school students to pursue careers in education.

California Construction College
The California Construction College offers a unique academic pathway for hardworking men and women in the construction industry to earn a bachelor's degree to prepare for a career in construction management. An innovative academic approach brings together the resources, experience and dedication of the National Labor College, San José City College and the diverse sectors of California's construction industry.

CAL-PASS (California Partnership for Achieving Student Success)
CAL-PASS is a system that collects data about student success and transition from every segment of education, K-16. Informed by data, powered by inspiration and developed through collaboration—Cal-PASS partners identify problems, develop local solutions, and bring them to scale across regions and throughout California to achieve Success at Every Level.

Cal-SOAP (California Student Opportunity & Access Program)
“Making college a reality” isn’t just what we believe in, it’s what we do. San Jose Cal-SOAP has been dedicated to getting students into college since 1978. Our goal is to improve the flow of information about higher education and financial aid to the families in the Great San Jose Area. Along with that knowledge, we equip students with the right skills and preparation to succeed.

CA P-16 Council
The Superintendent's California P-16 Council is charged with examining ways to improve student achievement at all levels and link preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and higher education to create a comprehensive, integrated system of student learning.

Career Academy Support Network
The Career Academy Support Network is dedicated to the goal of improving high schools, particularly through career academies and other small learning communities. Career academies combine coursework that prepares students for both college and career. Partnerships with employers and higher education give students opportunities to learn beyond the high school classroom.

Center for Employment Training (CET)
CET is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to fighting poverty & dependence on public aid by making hands-on job training available to youth and adults of all educational levels & backgrounds, but especially to those most in need and hardest to serve.

College Track
College Track is an after-school, college preparatory program. Through our center-based approach and core service areas, College Track has created a culture of high expectations. We ensure that each student is college ready and provide support that many students do not have in their homes or at their schools.

Gateways Partnership
California State University, East Bay has been selected as one of four nationwide demonstration sites to create a region-wide partnership to support educational systems that improve student achievement and economic development within the region we serve.

Gear Up
GEAR UP is a federally funded, state-administered program designed to stimulate interest in college attendance, awareness of college entrance requirements and knowledge about available financial aid by High school students.

Greene Scholars  
As a long-term K-12 initiative, the Greene Scholars Program is designed to develop 21st century leaders with strong science/mathematics backgrounds coupled with innovation, entrepreneurial/leadership and problem solving skills. The GSP primary goal has been to increase the success rate of African American students in STEM course work and to increase the number of students choosing STEM career paths.

José Valdez Summer Math Institute
The José Valdés Math Institute is an organization whose mission is to improve students' skills in math and close the achievement gap in San Jose and Silicon Valley.

Junior Achievement
JA Worldwide is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.

Linked Learning Alliance
The Linked Learning Alliance is a statewide coalition of education, industry, and community organizations dedicated to improving California's high schools and preparing students for postsecondary education and career, both options and not just one or the other. Hundreds of organizations and individuals have joined to date.

Metro Ed – CCOC
MetroED is the largest career-oriented educational organization in Santa Clara County, comprised of high school and adult career technical, academic and community programs. MetroED annually provides more than 20,000 diverse students with the skills to help them be productive, income-earning and tax-paying contributors to Silicon Valley.

P-21 Council
The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is a national organization that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student.

Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
Project Lead The Way® is a not-for-profit organization partnering with public schools, the private sector, and higher education to increase the number and quality of engineers graduating from our educational system.  PLTW provides a four year, flexible, pre-engineering sequence of course work for high school students and a challenging, 40-week long, activity-oriented program for middle school students.

Ready by 21 - Forum for Youth Investment
The Ready by 21 Challenge is a call to leaders to use bigger goals, bolder strategies, better data and broader partnerships to improve programs for children and young people. It's not a new task for leaders; instead, Ready by 21 gives leaders the tools and supports to make the most of what they're already doing – offering powerful solutions for passionate leaders.

SCCOE Career Technical Education (CTE) Department
The SCCOE CTE Department provides support and advocacy for the development of high quality  career path and career technical education programs for students in Santa Clara County.

Schmahl Science Workshops
SSW is unique in its breadth of curriculum (physical, earth and life science), and for its tiered program meeting the needs of all age groups (pre-K through 12). We offer an after school career mentorship program that enables students to participate in on-going science and engineering research programs.

Silicon Valley Future Stars
SVFS provides high quality an innovative afterschool program for middle and high school students.  Our focus is on providing high quality opportunities for local underserved youth to set highly challenging goals and to explore multiple avenues to personal and professional success imbedded in positive media spotlights and high paying jobs. We are expecting that at least 80% of our participants will go to college.

TRIO (Federal Programs)
The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects.
