Communications

Communications keeps educators, students, parents, community and business leaders and the media informed about the SCCOE and its programs, initiatives and achievements. Communications disseminates news and information to these audiences through print publications, news releases, Internet and social media communications, multimedia presentations and other methods.

SERVICES

  • Media Relations

Communications provides the news media with a spectrum of information about the SCCOE and the wider education community through news releases, electronic newsletters and the SCCOE Web site. It also responds promptly to media requests for information and analysis, whether related directly to the SCCOE or to broader education issues.
  • Publications - External

Communications produces promotional and informational materials about the SCCOE and other educational programs. An electronic newsletter, the Education Bulletin, informs educators, school principals and superintendents, as well as business and general communities about SCCOE news, programs and initiatives. The SCCOE Web site provides considerable information on education-related issues and events, as well as statistics and analysis. Publication planning services - including concept, copy, graphic design and production - are also available to public schools and districts.
  • Publications - Internal

Just one of many internal communications edited and produced by Communications, the monthly Education Bulletin also reaches SCCOE staff members. The Intranet features information of interest to staff like SCCOE news, events and honors, multimedia presentations, as well as a comprehensive Systems Manual that details communication procedures. A thorough Style Guide provides direction on SCCOE logo use and proper formatting for correspondence and publications. A crisis communication plan details actions to be taken during an emergency situation.
  • Publications - References

Communications compiles and edits information for the Public Schools Directory, which provides address and phone data for the SCCOE and all county districts and schools. Produced in a hardbound form and distributed annually, the directory is also published online. SCCOE presentation folders, an annual Master Calendar and a Style Guide are also available.
  • Recognitions and Events

Communications organizes many regular and special SCCOE events, including the Santa Clara County Teacher Recognition Celebration with support from National Semiconductor, the County Federal Credit Union, the San Jose Mercury News and others. Other events include the National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished Schools Recognition, AVID Program Graduation, Young Artists Showcase, Mock Trial Winners Celebration and Take Your Children to Work. Communications publicizes the SCCOE Employee of the Month and other award recipients, producing certificates, plaques and other forms of internal and public recognition.
  • Special Projects

Communications provides consulting, editing, design and printing assistance to market SCCOE and school district programs. The department also offers communication, public relations and media training and consultation to SCCOE employees and school district personnel.
  • Web sites

The department develops and manages SCCOE Web sites, including the employee Intranet. The home page provides instant access to information on SCCOE news and services, as well as to education data and resources, job opportunities and the county's Public Schools Directory and School District Locator. The Intranet offers information of interest to SCCOE staff, including online and downloadable forms, a multimedia section, benefits information and a virtual suggestion "box."
